The Eye Flashcards
What is the function of the cornea
The cornea refracts(bends) light onto the lens
What is the function of the lens
The lens is a convex shape, it reflects light onto the retina
What is the function of a pupil
A pupil is a small hole in the iris that allows light to enter the eye
What is the function of the iris
The iris is the coloured part of the eye , it controls the size of the pupil and it is a muscle
What is the retina
The retina is the back layer of the eye, it contains light receptors
What is accommodation of the eye
When focussing on something (near or far) your lens changes shape . This is called the accommodation of the eye
How does the eye accommodate for near vision
The lens thickens and becomes rounder because the suspensory ligaments become lax and the ciliary muscles contract
How does the eye accommodate for distant vision
The lens thins and becomes flatter because the suspensory ligaments tense and the ciliary muscle relaxes
How does the iris change in dim light (iris reflex)
In dim light ,the pupil widens to allow more light in . The radial muscles of the iris contract and the circular muscles of the eye relax in order to make the pupil more dilate and allow more light to go in.
