The Eye Flashcards
What 6 qualities make up the structure of the eye
Retina Lens Cornea Pupil Ciliary muscle Suspensory ligaments
Function of the iris
Coloured ring of muscle- controls the amount of light entering the eye
What is the function of the eye lens
Focused light on retina
What is the function of the retina
Light sensitive cells around inside of eye
What is the function of the ciliary muscles
Attached to lens by suspensory ligaments- changes thickness of eye
What is the function of the pupil
Central hole formed by the iris where light enters eye
What is the function of the cornea
Transparent layer that protects the eye
Helps focus light on retina
Correction of vision using concave (diverging) and convex (converging) lenses do two things
What is this
Long sight- caused by eyeball being too short or eye lens unable to focus
Short sight- caused by the eyeball being too long of eye lens unable to focus
What Is the two two points
What is the range of these two points
Near point- 25cm
Far point- in finitely
What is the structure of a camera
A converging lens
Produces a real image
Position of lens is adjusted to focus image on film
How does the lens of a camera change depending on the distance of object
Distant object- distant from lens to film must be equal to focal length of camera lens
Nearer object- greater distance from the lens to film
What two things is the focal length of a lens determined by
Refractive index of the material from which the lens is made
Curvature of the two surfaces of the lens
