A

DURING- 6 million sandbags produced per month, good for jute industry, 60% of Dundee women worked in the jute mills,wages high bc in demand

AFTER-foreign competition (India, where the stuff is grown), demand for sandbags almost completely stopped, unemployment at 70% in Dundee by 1931

A

BEFORE-largest fishing fleet in europe,exporting to all of eastern europe and russia etc, Herring girls-gut fish

DURING- admiralty took control of almost all east coast ports, export markets lost, near to 100 fishing boats sunk during war

A

DURING- wages almost doubled by the end of the war, encouraged to reproduce by government, up to woman and young boys to do labor on farms as men were enlisted

AFTER-governments financial help stopped, worldwide prices fell by 25%, new machines reduced need for workers
