  • ideological revolution
    -intellectual movement characterised by the application of empiricism and rational thought to key issues
  • philosophes were skepitical and suspicious about key features of society that were based on tradition and supersititution

    -critical of the church, social and political aspects
    -economic structures
    -power to people
    -social contract
    -separation of powers
    -led to brith of liberalism which proposed ideas that are all men are born free and equal
    -the main ideas of the FR established under enlightenment, liberty , fraternity and equality
