What caused the Reformation to grow?
Roman Catholic Church was believed to be greedy, corrupt and did not represent a true Christian life
What did Protestants believe?
Bible should be translated into their own languages in order to engage with their religion more easily
List 4 Protestant beliefs:
-Churches should be plain and simple to avoid distraction
- Clergy are permitted to marry
- There should not be a Pope
- Sins can only be forgiven by God
List 3 Catholic beliefs:
- Pope is the head of Church
- Priests should wear vestments
- Churches should be highly decorated I honour and glory of God

Elizabeth became supreme governor of the Church of England - clergy had to swear an oath of allegience
What was the Act of Uniformity?
appearance of Churches and the form of services they held
What was the Royal Injunctions?
set of instructions to reinforce the acts of supremacy and uniformity
What was the purpose of the Establishment of the Ecclesiastical High Commission?
maintain discipline within Church and enforcing religious settlement
What issues did the Royal Injunctions state?
- all clergy were to teach the Royal supremacy
- anyone who refuses to attend Church would be reported
- pilgrimages were banned
- clergy were to wear special vestments
