The Elizabethan Playhouse Flashcards
What influence did the Puritans have with respect to acting?
The Puritans considered acting as sabbath-breaking and found theaters the centers of immorality
Describe what the Elizabethan Playhouse looked like.
The Elizabethan Playhouse was often round built or with six-sided wooden buildings entirely open to the sky. Within the playhouse there were multiple floors with different galleries. Common people stood in the yard while making fun of the acting people. In the Playhouse, or at least on the stage, were hardly any items/stage properties. This was often dealt with via a board in the audience with all the necessary information on it. There were two doors backstage for the actors to enter and disappear off the stage. For the actors to study their parts and remain hidden, there was a small recess built between the two doors.
