The Earths Resources Flashcards
Properties of Igneous Rock
Igneous Rocks are formed when molten rock solidifies, they are made up of interlocking crystals.
Types of igneous rocks
basalt, gabbro, granite
Properties of metamorphic rocks
Metamorphic rocks were once igneous or sedimentary rocks, but have been changed (metamorphosed) as a result of intense heat and/or pressure within the Earth’s crust.
Types of metamorphic rocks
marble, quartzite, slate, schist, gneiss
Properties of sedimentary rocks
They are formed through the accumulation, compaction, and cementation of various sediments over time.
What is the crust
The crust is the outer layer of the earth.
Is the Mantel hard or soft?
The mantle is mainly solid rock.
What is the core divided into?
The core is divided into two parts, outer and inner core. The outer core is solid the inner core
is liquid.

What types of weathering are there
biological; chemical; physical.
The carbon cycle illustrates how carbon is continually being recycled. It is made up of 5 parts
photosynthesis (involving all plants);
2. respiration (involving all animals and plants);
3. combustion (the burning of fuels);
4. decomposition;
5. consumerism (carbon being passed along a food chain).
What does porous mean
A rock that allows water to move through it
