THE EARTH IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM Flashcards
Poornima and Amavasya?
- You can see full moon only once in about a month’s time. It is full moon night or Poornima.
- A fortnight later, you cannot see it at all. It is new moon night or Amavasya. On this day you can watch the night sky best, provided it is a clear night.

- One of the most easily recognizable constellation is the Saptarishi (seven sages). It is a group of seven stars that forms a part of Ursa Major Constellation.
We can locate the location of the Pole star with the help of______.
Saptarishi.
Asteroid belt is located between?
Mars and Jupiter.
Which planets do not have moon?
Mercury and Venus.
Which planet has the highest density in our solar system?
Earth 5.517 gm/cm³
Mercury 5.44 gm/cm³ second highest.
Dwarf planets in our solar system?
- Pluto
- Ceres, 2003 UB 313.
Which planet is considered to be as the Earth’s twin?
Venus because its size and shape are very much similar to that of the earth.
Why we see only the one side of the moon?
The moon moves around the earth in about 27 days. It takes exactly the same time to complete one spin. As a result only one side of the moon is visible to us on the earth.
Tiny bodies which move around the sun are called?
Asteroids.
The small pieces of rocks which move around the sun are called?
Meteroids. Sometimes these meteoroids come near the earth and tend to drop upon it. During this process due to friction with the air they get heated up and burn.
Our galaxy is known as?
Milky Way or Akash Ganga.
