What was the whisky rebellion?

A

The new (broke) government had imposed a tax on whisky. A LOT of western Pennsylvania disliked the tax and (tried to) rebel against the government by refusing to pay the taxes. President George Washington responded by sending 13,000 strong-militia army that (immediately) stopped the rebellion

A

1797
John Adams wanted to avoid war with France so he sent delegates (Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, Elbridge Gerry, and John Marshall) to try and negatate with France. While they were on their way to France, they met 3 french diplomats that demanded that they pay $250,000 dollars. The Americans felt insulted and refused to pay the bribe
