what are derivational morphemes?
DM change whole classes of words, include prefixes & suffixes (ex: un-,-ly, non-)
what are free morphemes?
the noun, ver, adjective w/o derivational or inflectional (bound) morphemes (ex: basic, happy, neighbor)
what are bound morphemes
the change of the word or increase the precision of the free morpheme (ex: basicALLY, happILY, neighborS)
what do the common core state standards emphasize?
CCSS emphasize morphological awareness skills
in therapy for students w/ lang impairments, what do SLPS teach?
SLPS teach synonyms - take a word the student knows and give them a more sophisticated way to say it (ex: tired -> fatigued, tasty -> delicious)
what are pragmatics?
social rules of language. rules that govern conversational interactions.
when one person asks, “what do you want to eat?” and you respond with “soup is good this time of year”, this is an example of ___(social rules) because you didn’t explicitly respond to the question, but still stayed on topic and implied what you want to eat.

turn-taking, establishing & maintaining a topic, making relevant contributions, and repairing—correcting conversational errors
