Oral Cavity
where the gastrointestinal tract begins
Tongue
extends across the floor of the oral cavity and muscles attach it to the lower jawbone
Pharynx
throat, the common passageway for food from the mouth and for air from the nose
Salivary Glands
parotid, sublingual, and submandibular glands
Esophagus
tube connecting the throat to the stomach
Liver
large organ located in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen, secretes bile, store sugar, iron and vitamins
Stomach
muscular organ that receives food from the esophagus
Gallbladder
small sac under the liver. stores bile
Pancreas
organ behind the stomach that produces insulin and enzymes
Large Intestines
extends from the end of the ileum to the anus
Small Intestines
extends 20 feet from the pyloric sphincter to the first part of the large intestine
Appendix
blind pouch hanging from the cecum in the right lower quadrant
Rectum
last section of the large intestine, connecting the end of the colon and the anus
Anus
terminal end or opening of the digestive tract to the outside of the body
