Why were the economic ties so close between the USA and Cuba?
From 1898 to 1902 the USA had occupied Cuba. Once Cuba was independent they maintained close economic ties.

He signed a trade agreement with the USSR that they would buy all the sugar

April 1961 around 1500 rebels landed but we’re easily defeated by Castro

Castro decided that Cuba needed soviet military assistance to defend itself. This sparked the Cuban Missile Crisis
