Bias
Opinion about one thing that presents unprejudiced consideration of a question.
Loaded Language
Consists of words with strong connotations, or emotional associations.
Loaded Question
A question which contains a controversial or unjustified assumption.
Climax
Turning point of the story.
Stage Directioins
Playwright’s instructions for the director, performers, and stage crew.
Monologue
Long speech spoken by a single character to himself or herself, or to the audience.
Soliloquy
Monologue where a character speaks his/her private thoughts aloud and appears to be unaware of the audience.
Aside
Short speech or comment that is delivered by a character to the audience, but that is beyond the hearing of other characters who are present.
Foil
Minor character whose traits contrast sharply with those of the main character.
Drama
Form of literature that’s written to be performed for an audience.
Tragedy
(type of drama) unveils the downfall of a main character.
Comedy
(type of play) Light and often humorous tone.
Plot
Introduces interactions that produce a conflict.
Setting
Time/ place where the action occurs.
Character
People, animals, other beings, who take part in the action of a story or novel.
Theme
Main idea/lesson of the play.
Act
Major unit of action in a play, similar to a chapter.
Scene
Subdivision of an act in a drama.
Conflict
Struggle between two opposing forces.
Cast of Characters
List of all the characters in a play, usually
in the order of appearance.
Protagonist
Central character of the play.
Antagonist
Character who opposes the main character.
Foil
Minor character whose traits contrast sharply with those of the main character.
