Irony
A contrast or discrepancy between appearance and reality, or between what is expected and what actually happens.
Verbal Irony
Verbal irony is the most common form of irony that is used. It is also called rhetorical irony. That is because a speaker who uses verbal irony usually means the opposite of what s/he says.
Saying one thing and meaning another.
Situational Irony
takes place when the end result of a situation is the exact opposite of what was expected. This is also known as the irony of fate or cosmic irony. The turn of events that follow an expected result are the opposite.
What happens is different from what is expected.
Dramatic Irony
dramatic irony is when an audience perceives something that a character in the literature does not know.
The reader has important information that the characters do not have.
