✓ The contribution of other nations to the outbreak of war - OTHER INFLUENCES (not incl notes) Flashcards
How did the world economy contribute to WW2?
1929 depression after the wsc hit econs worldwide & created problems govs found hard to deal with = rise in support for extreme rw/lw parties (helped parties such as the Nazis to take power)
+
made countries more inward looking - traded less, imports/exports fell bc everyone in the same position
+
Br set up favourable trade agreements w its colonies which it kept when econ began to recover = didn’t set up trade links w the new EE countries so more likely to trade w G/USSR
Where Hitler’s actions only influenced by his foreign policy & other aims?
NO
third reich expansion was vital to him & he tied his domestic policy to it
BUT
H’s foreign policy also affected by his domestic circumstances
e.g. rearmament helped the G econ to recover from the depression BUT demands then grew so great that they produced econ strain
+
H also had to meet the expectations of the G ppl & groups within it (industrialists & Nazi party members)
- he also underestimated the effect that domestic anti-Semitism had abroad e.g. Kristallnacht 1938 was signif in changing Br public opinion towards war w G
Was H’s foreign policy a significant factor in the outbreak of WW2?
YES, it certainly was
- his invasion of P in 1939 set the war going
- how much that invasion was intended to start a wider war is still open to debate
- + also extent to which he had a long-term plan OR exploited opportunities as they came his way
