Amendment 1
Freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition
Amendment 2
Right to bear arms or keep weapons
Amendment 3
No quartering of soldiers without the consent of the owner.
Amendment 4
No unreasonable searches and seizures, and requires a warrant, with probable cause
Amendment 5
Rights of people in criminal proceedings.
- A person must be charged with a specific crime.
- No double-jeopardy.
- No person can be forced to testify against himself.
- Every person is entitled to due process: a fair hearing or trial.
- Government may not seize private property without paying the owner a fair market price.
Amendment 6
Guarantees the right to a speedy fair and public trial.
Accused must be told of what they are charged of and must be allowed to have a lawyer.
Amendment 7
Preserves the right of trial by jury in civil cases or cases involving parties contesting private matters. 20 dollars.
Amendment 8
Forbids unreasonably high bail to be set by courts.
No cruel or unusual punishment.
Amendment 9
Provides that the people retain certain rights, even though the Constitution does not specifically list them.
Amendment 10
Powers not given to the federal government belong to the states. LIMITS THE POWER OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
Amendment 11
Suits against the state. Prohibits federal courts from hearing cases lodged against a state by a citizen of another state.
Amendment 12
Requires that choices for President and Vice-President be designated as such. Not a popularity contest. If no majority in electoral college
Amendment 13
Abolished slavery (December 6, 1865)
Amendment 14
You’re a citizen by blood or soil. If you are born in the US or you are naturalized, you are a citizen.
Defines citizenship.
If you are born by an American citizen, you are an American.
Equal protection.
Amendment 15
The right to vote cannot be denied because of race.
