Any external devices or components connected to the system unit.
What is hardware?
Refers to the physical part of the computer that you can see and touch.
What are some examples of peripheral devices?

What is the system unit?
A box like case that houses all the electronic components of the computer.
Name five general categories of hardware.

What are input devices?
Any machine that feeds data into a computer.

What is the CPU?
This is the brain of the computer.
AKA the microprocessor
Controls how the rest of the computer works.
It is assisted by the CU and the ALU.
What is the CU?
The CU is the control unit.
What does job of the CU?
The CU carries out instructions in the software and directs the flow of data through the computer.
What is the ALU?
The ALU is the arithmetic logic unit.
What is the job of the ALU?
The ALU performs the calculations and logic operations.
What are output devices?
They receive processed information out of the computer
What are some examples of output devices?

- monitor
- speakers
- plotters
What is a storage device?
This is used to store information permanently.
