In English, -er is added to adjectives and adverbs to make them comparative. In spanish, the phrase mas…que is used instead.

in simple terms:
mas que means more than, so instead of saying “Aaron is faster than James” you would say “Aaron is more fast than James.” (in Spanish: Aaron corre mas rapido que James.)
