A

At the close of WW11, The SU was intent on installing govts that would pay allegiance to the Kremlin (Govt in Moscow, S U) . This was called the Soviet Union security zone, a buffer zone.

Explain the TRUMAN doctrine

A

Created by Pres. Harry Truman, was to give aid to countries so as to prevent them from falling to communism. It was a policy of Containment (stopping communism containing it). Countries involved: Greece, Turkey.

Created in 1955, ended in 1991. Where 8 communist countries agreed to a mutual defense treaty, involved the states of Central & Eastern Europe. This Pact was also a response to West Germany becoming a part of NATO.

A

Was the closest the world had come to a nuclear war; OCt1962, confrontation between the United States & Soviet Union/Cuba.
Nikita Kruschev proposed placing Soviet missiles in Cuba & they were to be pointed at the U.S.

To deter any other future invasion of Cuba by the U.S. There was a failed attempt to invade Cuba by the US in May 1962, & overthrow the Cuban govt.
