What was the Temple market?
The place where faithful Jews could buy animals for sacrifice, in the belief that the act would lead to God forgiving their sins
But what were the market traders doing? and how were they doing this?
Exploiting the worshippers by charging them high prices, apparently with approval from the religious authorities
What did Jesus do
It angered him so he overturned the money tables and threw out the traders
Why was Jesus angry?
Because the religious authorities had not listened to Gods message in scripture - that he did not want animal sacrifices
- he wanted true worship from the heart
What did The Old Testament foretold about the Lord
That he would one day come from his temple
The message was clear, how would salvation come?
Not through the Jewish rituals and animal sacrifices but from faith in Jesus Christ
