Gettysburg
Lee attacked Meade and they battled near Gettysburg. Lees forces were devastated and it was the turning point in the east for the union.
Anteitam
McClellan attacked Lee outside of Sharpsburg. They fought the bloodiest single day in history. Lee retreated, and McClellan let him go.
McClellan was fired.
Vicksburg
After six months of siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Grant forced Pemberton to surrender, and the union gained control of the Mississippi River.
The Burning of Lawrence
Bushwhackers raided and burned Lawrence for revenge for the women and children who were imprisoned and died.
The Emancipation Proclamation
Lincoln issued this after the battle of Antietam, it freed slaves in the confederate states as the union advanced.
