Why is Calypso holding Odysseus?
Because she loves Odysseus very much and she wants him to live with her on the island and turn him into a immortal like her so he never knows death or old age
How was Odysseus able to get off the island?
Hermes goes to the island where Odysseus is held and talks Calypso into letting Odysseus go free even though she probably did not want him to go and then Odysseus with a little bit of help makes a raft/boat and sails off the island named Ogygia where Calypso has held him for 7 years
Who is Ino, and how does she assist Odysseus?
Ino is a nymph and she tells Odysseus why the storm on the sea is happening and tells him what to do to make him make it to dry land alive
How does Athene assist with Odysseus’ new predicament?
Athene comes into the dream of the King daughter Nausicaa and in the dream tells her to ho to the river to wash all of her garments because she would marry soon and down by the river, she finds Odysseus and helps him

Describe the Phaeacian Society
It is a very rich society it say with all these fruits trees and gold rend doors and stuff and they are also very strong and athletic People

He was given good and evil fortune by the gids and when he starts playing the lyre and telling the good deedsof Achilles and Odysseus and it makes Odysseus cry
Explain what Odysseus gains from this part of his journey in chapter 3
He gets a ship and rowers to get back home, good, gifts ( things to help him get back home

That the people were happy and friendly because they ate and kept eating the lotus fruit, but ht land was bad to live in because if they ate the lotus flower, they would forget their past and maybe the land may be a rough, hard to live in terrane
How does Odysseus escape the Cyclops?
He takes a piece of wood, put in the fire, and then gives the Cycop wine until he becomes drunk and then Oddyssues throws the wood at his eve so he is blind and then ties 3 sheep together and in the middle one, he and his workers ride and when the cyclops feels the sheep he will only feel the two side ones
What are the consequences of Odysseus’ encounter with the Cyclops?
When he was leaving the island, he says you have been tricked by Odysseus, son of Laertes, and Polyphemus tells his father Poseidon and that is why Odysseus is cursed with the bad misfortune and sea-trouble
How did AEolus’ feelings changed toward Odysseus between the beginning of the chapter and the end?
At the beginning of the chapter, Aeolus treated Odysseus very nice by letting him stay for a month and other things and then giving him a gift, but at the end, Odysseus appears back where he started where AEolus’s was and AEolus wants to get away from him because he knows this is a curse from the gods
Summarize Circe’s role in Odysseus’ journey.
At first, she turns his companions into pigs, but then she turns them back and when she does, they are more handsome men and that probably maid them even stronger and Odysseus stays with her for a year and she is really nice to him
How does the Sirens affect Odysseus’ journey?
They make it harder for him and he loses 6 warriors to them, which is probably harder for him because he has less protection and has to work longer
