Q

What emotions lead Juan to write and send Mariana a letter? How does he feel after he has sent the letter? Why do his feelings change? What does this communicate about the society in which he lives?

A

At the beginning of the story, Juan writes Mariana a letter because he is happy to learn that she is in paris. After he writes her the letter, he begins to fear her safety. His feelings change beause he knows that the government read and censors the letters, and it also kidnaps anyone who wants to overthrow the political system. These ideas communicate that juan lives in a very restrictive society that threatens the lives of its cetizens.
