Q

How is DNA replicated?

Semi-conservative replication

A
  • 1- DNA helicase breaks the hydrogen bonds. The helix unzips to form 2 single stands
  • 2- single strands act as a template for a new strand. Free-floating DNA joins to exposed bases
  • 3- nucleotides on new strands join by the enzyme DNA polymerase. Hydrogen bonds form.
  • each new DNA molecule contains 1 original strand and 1 new strand
