The Cell Cycle Flashcards
List the Phases of the Cell Cycle
G1 (G0) S1 G2 Mitosis
Describe G1
DNA present as a single Double Helix
RNA and proteins synthesised
1-10 hours of cell growth
Describe S Phase
DNA replicated
Around 9 hours
Describe G2
DNA present as 2 identical sister chromatids
What is interphase
The time between Mitosis
G1,S,G2
Name the phases of mitosis
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
What happens in prophase?
DNA condenses into chromosomes, each containing two sister chromatids.
Whats happens in metaphase?
Chromosomes align on the central plane of the spindle, and microtubule spindle fibres join to the centromeres.
Nuclear membranes disintegrate.
What happens in Anaphase?
The sister chromatids are separated and pulled to the spindle poles.
What happens in telophase?
The chromatids are pulled to each pole
The nuclear envelope begins to reform
The genetic material begins to decondense.
