The cell (ch. 1) Flashcards
What is the nucleus? and what does it do?
The nucleus is the control centre of the cell. It directs the activities of the cell.
Where are chromosomes found?
Chromosomes are in the nucleus.
What is the cell membrane?
The cell membrane is a layer of fat that moves nutrients in and out of the cell.
What is a vacuole?
A vacuole is used to store water and nutrients. It also moves waste out of the cell.
What are some similarities between plant cells and animal cells?
They have most of the same structures. Ex. nucleus, membrane.
What are organelles?
Organelles are tiny structures inside the cytoplasm of a cell.
What are the different kinds of endoplasmic reticulum?
Rough and smooth
What does the lysosome do?
they have proteins that break down big molecules
What is cell theory?
THe ideas that all living things are made up of one or more cells and cell are made by other cells.
