The Cardiovascular system - The valves of the heart - Semi-lunar valves Flashcards
What is the second valves on the right side of the heart called and where is it located?
How many cusps does it have?
Pulmonary valve – located between the right ventricle and the pulmonary trunk (pulmonary orifice).
The valve consists of three cusps – left, right and anterior
What is the second valves on the left side of the heart called and where is it located?
How many cusps does it have?
Aortic valve – located between the left ventricle and the ascending aorta (aortic orifice).
The aortic valve consists of three cusps – right, left and posterior.
What marks the left and right aortic sinuses
They mark the origin of the left and right coronary arteries.
When does blood fill the aortic sinuses and where does it then flow
As blood recoils during ventricular diastole, it fills the aortic sinuses and enters the coronary arteries to supply the myocardium.
