Democratic Rights
People over 18 can vote in elections and run as a candidate
Fundamental Freedoms
Freedom of conscience and religion, thought, belief, opinion, expression, the press, and peaceful assembly
Mobility Rights
Citizens can enter, remain in, or leave Canada. They can also move anywhere in Canada.
Equality Rights
Treated as “equal before and under the law”
Legal Rights
No one can be arbitrarily arrested and detained, or receive inhumaine treatment. Everyone has the right to a fair trial.
The Official Languages of Canada
Citizens can communicate with and receive federal government services in English or French, and can use English or French in any federal court
Minority Language Educational Rights
Children can be educated in either French or English where sufficient numbers of students exist
