THE BREATHING SYSTEM Flashcards
NOSE
IT IS USED TO BREATHE AND HAS TWO HOLES CALLED NOSTRILS WHICH YOU BREATHE THROUGH
MOUTH
IT IS USED FOR BREATHING AND EATING
TRACHEA
IT IS ALSO CALLED THE WINDPIPE AND IT ALLOWS AIR TO PASS THROUGH IT INTO THE LUNGS
RINGS OF CARTILAGE
IT HELPS THE TRACHEA TO STAY OPEN IN ORDER TO LET THE AIR PASS THROUGH WHILE STILL ALLOWING IT TO MOVE AND FLEX DURING BREATHING
CARTILAGE
IT IS A STRONG TISSUE BUT NOT AS HARD AS BONE
BRONCHUS
THE TRACHEA SPLITS INTO TO BRONCHI (PLURUL OF BRONCHUS) WHICH EACH LEAD INTO ONE OF THE LUNGS
BRONCHIOLE
THE BRONCHUS SPLITS INTO MANY BRONCHIOLES
ALVEOLUS (AIR SAC)
THE BRONCHIOLES HAVE MANY ALVEOLI ATTACHED TO THEM AND FEED THEM AIR WHICH IS THEN EXCHANGED FOR GASES THAT THE BLOOD DOES NOT NEED, SUCH AS WATER VAPOUR AND CARBON DIOXIDE, TO BE BREATHED OUT
MUSCLE
A LOT OF MUSCLE TISSUES THAT WORK TOGETHER TO CONTRACT AND RELEASE SO THAT WE CAN MOVE OUR BODY
HEART
A HOLLOW MUSCULAR ORGAN THAT PUMPS THE BLOOD THROUGH THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
RIBCAGE
THE BONY FRAME FROMED BY THE RIBS AROUND THE CHEST THAT ALSO PROTECTS THE ORGANS CONTAINED INSIDE IT
RIB
JUST ONE RIB FROM THE RIBCAGE
LUNGS
A PAIR OF ORGANS SURROUNDED BY THE RIBCAGE THAT CONTAINS THE BRONCHIOLES AND ALVIOLI
DIAPHRAGM
A VITAL PIECE IN THE BREATHING SYSTEM THAT HELPS THE LUNGS INFLATE
