The Brain Flashcards
Forebrain
Responsible for a variety of processes, including higher order functions.
Midbrain
Closely linked with sensory information, sleep and simple movement.
Hindbrain
Controls the most basic human functions (heart rate, coordination, etc.)
Cerebellum
Manages motor commands sent to/from the nervous system such as balance.
Medulla
Control of bodily functions (breathing, heart rate, etc.) through the autonomic nervous system.
Involuntary Response
A response to a stimulus that occurs without someone making a conscious choice, such reflexes.
Neural connections
Links formed by messages passing from one nerve cell (neuron) to another.
Anterior
Directed towards the front, when used in relation to our biology.
Posterior
Directed towards the back, when used in relation to our biology.
Brain
The organ in your head made up on nerves that processes information and controls behavior.
