the brain Flashcards
What is the function of the lateral VPL?
Revives input from the leg projects to the midline
What is the function of the medial VPL?
Receives input from arms projects to the lateral
What is the function of the VPM?
receives input from face to lateral region
What does the superior colliculi do?
Receive visual information
What does the inferior colliculi do?
receive auditory information
What do the gracile fascicles do?
carry sensory information from the legs
What is the difference between the fascicles and the tubercles?
The fascicles contain ascending tracts of nerve fibres and tubercles contain the cell bodies
What do the cuneate fascicles do?
carry sensory information from the arms
What are the pyramids?
white matter structures of the medulla and contains descending motor fibres of the corticospinal and corticobulbar tracts
What do the olives contain?
decending motor fibres
What are the primary and secondary association areas for general sensation?
post central gyrus
superior parietal lobe
What are the primary and secondary association areas for visual sensation?
Either side of calcarine (striated)
Pre-striate area
What are the primary and secondary association areas for auditory sensation?
Heschel's gyros (superior temporal) Lateral tissue (superior temporal)
Where is the primary association area for olfactory sensation?
uncus
Where is the primary association area for gustatory?
Inferior post-central gyrus
Where is the primary motor cortex?
Precentral gyrus
Where is the promotor area (association)?
Anterior to precentral gurus on the lateral surface
Where is the supplementary motor area (association)?
Anterior to precentral gyros on the medial surface
Where is the frontal eye field (association)?
Anterior to premotor
What are the tubercles and fasicles part of?
dorsal column pathway
