4
Q
Hypothalmus
A
- Regulates body temperature and blood water concentrations
- Sends signals to pituitary gland
5
Q
Studying those with brain damage
A
- Identify damaged part of brain
- Observe physical effects of the person
- Link its effect to conclude the purpose of that brain structure
6
Q
Electrical stimulation
A
- Place small electrode into brain and send a small zap
- Observe physical effects
7
Q
CT scans
A
- using x-rays
- investigating which parts of the brain are damaged
8
Q
PET scans
A
- using radioactive chemicals
- measuring underlying activity
9
Q
MRI scans
A
- magnetic resonating imaging
- using strong magnetic fields
- measuring underlying activity
10
Q
Why is treating the brain so difficult?
A
- very delicate -> tissue is fragile -> difficult to physically fix anything
- very complex -> difficult to treat with drugs/chemicals
- many things can go wrong: tumours, trauma, infection, mental health problems
