Describe Rudi.
Rudi is one of Helmuth’s friends from school and church. The two boys become lord lister partners. Helmuth also shows Rudi the Rola Radio. He helps with the pamphlets.
Describe Karl.
Karl is Helmuth’s friend from school and church. Helmuth shows Karl the Rola Radio. Karl was very brave and adventurous when helping with the pamphlets and passing them out.
Describe Brother Worbs.
Brother Worbs is Opa’s friend. He is also the leader of the church. He is put in a concentration camp, losing his teeth and having all of his fingers broken.
Describe Gerhard.
Gerhard is Helmuth’s friend from from work at the City Hall. Helmuth shows Gerhard the Rola Radio. Gerhard ends up turning on him, and ultimately blames Helmuth for listening to the radio, in order to protect himself.
What is Adolf Hitler’s and his army’s role in the story?
They are the antagonists. Hitler is in charge of Germany and has control over everyone.
What is the German people’s loyalty to Hitler?
People listened to everything he said. They were afraid of what he might do if they didn’t.
What were the promises that Hitler made?
Hitler said he would keep the people of Germany safe. He said that he could bring the economy back and everything would be fine.
What was Hitler’s ideology?
Hitler basically said that the world will be a better place if all of the Jews are killed.
What is the propaganda?
The RRG (Reich Broadcasting Corporation) shared false information about the war. Hitler only allowed people to listen to this radio. He didn’t want them to hear the truth.
Describe Helmuth.
Helmuth is the main character and protagonist of the story. He is anti-Hitler. He dares to speak up for the truth and what he believed in.
What were the spontaneous riots?
This was when German people rioted against the Jews. An example is when Hugo went out and started to burn down the Jewish shops.
