What is the First Amendment simplified?
It protects freedom of speech, religion, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
What is the Second Amendment simplified?
It protects and ensures the use of a well-regulated militia, and protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms
What is the Third Amendment simplified?
It protects citizens by limiting ruling on military quartering, saying that (in times of peace or war) no soldier shall be quartered in any house without the owner’s consent
What is the Fourth Amendment simplified?
It protects people from illegal search & seizure without probable cause
What is the Fifth Amendment simplified?
A lengthy amendment, broken into five parts: the right to a jury trial when you’re charged with a crime, protection against double jeopardy, protection against self-incrimination, the right to a fair trial, and protection against the taking of property by the government without compensation (eminent domain)
What is the Sixth Amendment simplified?
Assuring (the accused) during a criminal trial the right to a speedy and public trial, to be tried in the U.S state of which the crime was committed, and to gather witnesses in their favor and against them
What is the Seventh Amendment simplified?
Common law in which if the value of a crime exceeds $20, the right of a jury trial shall be preserved
What is the Eighth Amendment simplified?
Protects/prohibits criminals from being punished with excessive bail or fine imposed nor cruel and/or unusual punishments
What is the Ninth Amendment simplified?
States that no right shall be constructed or used to deny or be used against the American people
(rights are for the people, not the government to use against them)
What is the Tenth Amendment simplified?
Ensures that powers for the U.S not made clear in the constitution, nor prohibited by the states are reserved for the states themselves or the people
