The Big Quizaroo Flashcards
Causal-Comparative Study
Research that seeks to determine the cause of differences between two groups based on an independent variable that has already happened or cannot be manipulated.
Cluster Sampling
A sampling technique where the entire population is divided into groups and a random sample of these groups is selected
Correlational Research
The type of research that seeks to determine the degree to which a relationship exists between two variables
Dependent Variable
The “outcome” variablethe variable through which a change or difference is measured
Experimental Research
Research in which at least one independent variable is manipulated, other variables are controlled, and the effect of the independent variable on a dependent variable is observed
Generalizability
The extent to which a sample represents the population from which it was selected
Independent Variable
The variable believed to make a difference with respect to some behavior or condition
Nominal Data
Classifies persons or objects into two or more categories
Ordinal Data
Classifies participants by ranking them in terms of how much (or little) they possess a certain characteristic
Population for a Study
The group to which a researcher would like the results of a study to be generalizable
Qualitative Research
Research in which the investigator attempts to study naturally occurring phenomena, through means not involving traditional numerical data
Quantitative Research
Research in which the investigator attempts to clarify phenomena through carefully designed and controlled data collection, generally involving numbers.
Random Selecting
Selecting a group of individuals for a study in such a way that all possible participants have an equal and independent chance of being selected
Reliability
The extent to which an instrument consistently measures what it is intended to measure
Sample for a Study
A number of individuals selected for a study, preferably in such a way that they represent the larger group from which they were selected
