The Behavourist Approach Flashcards
strength of classical conditioning:
CC has helped with treatments for reducing anxiety associated with phobias. In SD the original association is countered by a new association
limitations of classical conditioning:
Seligman (1970)
different species have different means of survival so have different experiences of CC. Animals have a preparedness (Seligman) and so form associations for survival rather than less important associations
strengths of operant conditioning:
Skinner relied on the experimental method so conditions where controlled and the IV was directly manipulated. This established a cause-effect relationship
limitations of operant conditioning:
Skinner used animals and not humans and thus his research tells us little about humans. Humans have free will rather than having putt behaviours determined by reinforcement
