The Behaviourist Approach - Classical Conditioning Flashcards
1
Q
Name the researcher involved with this Classical Conditioning (Behaviourist approach) & what he investigated.
A
- Pavlov (1927) experimented with dogs salivary reflex
2
Q
How did the researcher carry out his investigation in Classical Conditioning?
A
- Ringing a Bell + After presenting food to hungry animal = Bell on its own is sufficient to produce response of salivation.
3
Q
What did the researcher of this approach discover in classical conditioning?
A
Discovered that:
- Many pairings of Natural Stimulus + Unconditioned Stimulus = Conditioned stimulus.
- Results in conditioned stimulus’ response is called a conditioned response
4
Q
Name a strength of Classical Conditioning.
A
- Systematic desensitisation therapy
- Development of treatments. E.g for anxiety, phobias etc..
5
Q
Name a limitation of Classical Conditioning.
A
- Different species face different challenges for survival = have different capabilities
- Difficult for some species
6
Q
What is Classical Conditioning?
A
Learning through association.
