What does the bill of rights tell us?
Tells us what our rights are and how they are governed.
What is a constitution?
The system of laws and rules that states people’s rights and duties. These are the highest laws by which a country is governed.

Special rules of the country that protect people from being harmed by anyone.
What are the three pillars of democracy?
Equality,responsibility and freedom.
What does a citizen have?
Full rights in a country,either by birth or by becoming a South African.
What does equality mean?
Every citizen has equal rights.
What happened in 1994?
South Africa held its first democratic elections to become a democracy.
Why was the significance of South Africa holding their first democratic elections?
For the first time,the laws said that all citizens were equal.
What did the 1994 elections do?
They ended 46 years of apartheid.
What happened during apartheid?
Only white citizens were allowed to vote and rule the country.
What happens now in democracy?
All citizens of voting age have the right to vote.
What do people vote for?
A political party.
What is the role of the leaders in these parties?
They are trusted to make decisions for the people in government.
What does freedom mean?
Adult citizens are free to vote in and stand for election.
