Causes of the Bosnian crisis?
A
- Two empires owned the Balkans (AH and Turkey)
- Many different nationalities, ratial groups and religions in the Balkans, therefore there was a lot of rivalry and tension
- Both empires were weak and unstable
- A-H was eager to illiminate Serbian nationalism (and to destoy it) as it feared a break up of its empire the Slavs united under Serbia
- Russia wanted a warm water port and access to the Mediterranean sea (also wanted to support Serbia as they’re both Slavs)
- Serbia wanted to increase its size and aquire a coastline (aka by taking ov er Bosnia)

Events of Bosnian crisis?
A
- In 1908 there was a revolution in Turkey and AH took the chance to annex Bosnia
- The annexation was opposed by Serbia
- Serbia was too small and looked to Russia for support
- Russia helped Serbia and supported its demand for an international conference
- Wilhelm was annoyed with A-H but till promised full support
- Russia was too weak to fight and backed down

Results of the Bosnian crisis?
A
- It reassured AH hat Germany was reliable (this affected how they acted in 1914)
- Russia was humiliated and to make sure it didn’t happen again they improved their military
- It brought Britain, France and Russia together
- Serbia accepted annexation but wanted revenge on A-H
- Italy disliked A-H and became less keen on the Triple Alliance
