The Atom Flashcards
Which number is represented by (A)
Nucleon Number
Which number is represented by (Z)
The Proton Number
Why don’t protons repel each other in the nucleus?
Due to the strong nuclear force
Why don’t electrons collide into the nucleus?
Because their velocity is always changing therefore they continue in their orbit
At what distance does the strong nuclear force work best?
Very short distances, but if they get too close then the force becomes repulsive
How do you calculate the specific charge of an electron?
Charge / mass
How do you calculate the specific charge of a proton?
Charge / mass
How would you calculate the specific mass of an element?
Total number of Protons X charge / total mass of Protons + total mass of neutrons
