The Archaeologist Flashcards
How do you carry out an excavation
Digging trenches, remove topsoil using shovels, trowels & brushes, cataloguing al finds, taking photographs & storing all finds in labeled boxes or bags
What are 4 ways archaeologist identify sites
Research archaeology, rescue archaeology, visible ruins & aerial photography
What is archaeology
The study of remans left by people in the past
What are 7 methods used by archaeologists to carry out an excavation
Radiocarbon dating, geophysical surveying, pollen analysis, stratigraphy, dendrochronolgy, DNA testing & 3D reconstruction
What is dendrochronology
looking at how old a tree is by cutting it open and counting the ring. 1 ring = 1 year
What is radio carbon dating
Looking at the carbon-14 in someone because when you are alive you have carbon-14 so depending on the level you can see how old someone is
What is 3D reconstruction
using a computer to fill in or complete a part of someone’s body if id is missing so they can see what they looking like with a full face or a full body
What is stratigraphy
looking at how Deep something is , the deeper they are = older they are
What is DNA testing
finding body’s and being able to tell where someone is from or who the relatives are by looking at there DNA
