What was the design of the amphitheatre
Oval shaped with tiered seating also used as steps. The floor was covered in sand (harena) to absorb the blood and swept out. 8ft wall protecting audience.

Best seats second row from front, slaves and women sat at the top and children tended not to go
What was under the amphitheatre
Animal chambers and lift using pulleys used to lift them up. Changing rooms for gladiators, treatment rooms and bathrooms. Shrine to worship gods (nemesis)
How would people enter and exit the amphitheatre
Through steep and wide steps which were difficult to leave through.
Seating closest to arena accessed through archways at ground level
Where did the gladiators come from
Half of all gladiators were volunteers, others were slaves.
How were the gladiators trained
Go to gladiator school (lanista) and after 3 months of training a final test would take place to be selected
What happened before a fight
They would have a big feast and women would pay to be with the gladiators (widows etc.) the night before and right before a fight they would make offerings to nemesis
Who payed for the games and what happened if a gladiator died
A sponsor seeking popularity would pay for the games and if one died the sponsor would have to pay for a replacement and the families of the G would be compensated
What was the chance of survival and how was it a fair match
90% chance of survival and each match had a referee
What would they receive if they won
Wooden swords and money.
winning 1 fight payed up to the annual earning of a soldier
