Ch3) Pyramus and Thisbe

A

Thisbe and Pyramus are forbidden, by parents, to see each other. One night they both sneak off. They agreed to meat by a mulberry tree. Thisbe arrives first but is attacked by a lion and as she runs away she drops her bloody vail. Pyramus then shows up. Sees the vail and thinks she died so he offs himself (using his sword). Then Thisbe sees him dead and offs herself. They get buried together and the tree forever grows purple berries.

Cephalus goes hunting and talks about the wind blowing against his breasts. Procris follows and hears she thinks he’s having an affair. Cep hears her crying and thinks she’s a wounded animal. He throws a spear at her. She dies he realizes it was her.

Phaëton is the son of Apollo. None of his friends believes he is the son of Apollo so he asks his dad to give him something to show that he is Apollos son. Apollo reluctantly agrees to let him barrow his golden chariot. Phaëton then ruins the world by steering off the “road”.

A

Proserpine was raped by Pluto. And then Ceres went to find her daughter she met Celeus who’s son was sick but Ceres healed him. She was going to make the son immortal but got interrupted and didn’t. Ceres made a deal with Jupiter to get Proserpine back but Proserpine couldn’t eat anything while on earth. But she did and they had to compromise. Proserpine would spend half her time with her mother and the other half with her husband Pluto.

Glaucus was a fisherman who became a mermaid. He fell in love with Scylla but she didn’t love him back. He asked a goddess, Circe, to turn her into stone. “ she destroyed six of the companions of Ulysses, and tried to wreck the ships of AEneas, till at last she was turned into a rock.”

Ch11) Cupid and Psyche

A

Cupid and Psyche are meant to be together. But Cupid will never let her see his face for fear that she might now love him. Psyche and her sisters come up w/ a plan to see his face. Plan goes wrong, Cupid gets mad that she was going to kill him if he was hideous. To get him back Psyche has to do all these tasks but never completes them instead Cupid does. They get back together and all is well.

Medusa got her head cut off by Perseus. Acrisius was turned into stone by Perseus, as predicted by the oracle. Perseus saved Andromeda from a sea monster and then during the wedding feast Phineus demanded the virgin but he got turned into stone.

Bellerophontic beat the Chimaera using the Pegasus. The Chimaera was a horrible monster. Bellerophontic died after being thrown from his Pegasus.

Beowulf killed Grendel and took his arm. Grendel’s mom took the arm back. Beowulf killed Grendel’s mom and took the head as a trophy. Beowulf was offered to be the king but he denied and gave the kingship to the queens son. But he died in battle. So Beowulf became king. Then 50 years later a dragon entered the castle and Beowulf died. Beowulf named Wiglaf his successor right before he died. Wiglaf was the last of Beowulf’s men.
