ADVANTAGES

👍🏼 they provide 24/7 emotional support for clients who may feel desperate e.g childline
👍🏼 they provide valuable opportunities that the statutory sector is unable to provide due to cost e.g swimming
👍🏼 they are usually local meaning they are more accessible for children
👍🏼 organisations campaign to raise awareness of the needs of children and in doing so they raise standards of care
👍🏼they provide valuable opportunities for children to get support. They are less bureaucratic so they can meet the needs quicker

DISADVANTAGES

👎🏼 provision of services may be “patchwork” meaning they are only available in some areas
👎🏼children can be at a greater risk of abuse because of patchwork as they are not closely regulated
👎🏼 there may be a lack of staff due to short term contracts therefore the services can be unreliable
👎🏼 lack of accountability in some organisations because they are subject to less scrutiny than public sector, this can mean services are not managed so children’s needs cannot be met
👎🏼 they may be unreliable because funding and so may not be available every month leaving children feeling alone
