What does the data protection act cover?
Covers all businesses that have file systems to hold personal information of staff and clients.
The data protection act has a public register of data users and issues the business with a code of practice.
What does the code of practice state in the Data Protection Act?
A business must keep all information secure in either a locked draw or computer.
Any information should be accurate and relevant to your needs.
You must comply with client and staff requests for information that you are holding on them.
FAILURE to do so means you are contravening the act
What does the supply of goods and services act 1982 cover?
The act details the right for the consumer and the traders obligation to the consumer.
The GOODS must be of merchantable quality, fit for purpose and as described in advertising. If this is not met a consumer can claim for some or all money paid for the goods.
SERVICES should cost a reasonable price and be undertaken with skill and care.
What are the three main areas of the Consumer Protection Act?
- Product liability, legal liability for producing or selling a faulty product
- general safety requirements, maintaining health and well being with safe working practices
- Misleading prices, If it conveys or implies that the price is less than it is
What does the Sales of Goods Act 1979 recognise?
It recognises the contract between a retailer and consumer when purchasing a product.
A retailer must sell goods of the very best quality and refund the money if found to be defective. The retailer then must make a complaint to the supplier.
