Owners - US Knighthead. Tom Wagner / Tom Brady.
Last years - L1 ‘24/25, CH 12 seasons, Prem 2 years.

“This choice is not entirely inconsistent with Tom Wagner and Knighthead. They have been keen to play progressive, attractive, modern football whihc is a style that is at the heart of his methods working under Rogers and Postecoglou. Of course the success enjoyed by Kieran McKenna at Ipswich means that young coaches with a growing reputation are in vogue. Unearthing another McKenna is not straightforward, but Davies will be well-backed by ambitious owners who must give him the time and support to find his feet in his first number one role. League One is going to be an unforgiving experience for the club, and there really are no guarantees that they can gain promotion at the first time of asking.”

“We have tried to understand the fabric of the club, the culture, the fanbase and apply our business approach to that. That is the cornerstone of the success we have had. So far we are on track with regards to the plan. We are confident we are able to bring in a sensible, serviceable level of debt to fund the expansion. The ambition is to get to the Championship. We are confident we have the supporter base to achieve that.”

“Since Stott completed his takeover of the club four years ago, Stockport have been promoted twice. Should they continue their performance arc, the target of the Championship within seven years appears within their grasp. Stott’s investment ensures the rubric of the club is sound. The alchemy is brought by director of football, Simon Wilson, a data analyst who spent eight years in the vanguard of applied football science at Manchester City, and a coach who has never finished outside of the play-offs in 14 years as a manager across four clubs.”

When they rocked up in West Sussex, the “crypto bros”, social media influencers and Web3 investors of WAGMI United were selling a utopian vision, too. They wanted “to reinvent broken legacy sports management models” and “take Crawley Town, the smallest club in the English Football League, to the Premier League”, turning them into “the internet’s team” along the way.
