What is Salah?
Salah are the compulsory 5 set prayers Muslims perform everyday (a ritual) and the second pillar of Islam. They are a sequence of activities involving gestures, actions and recitations.
What is Jumu’ah?
Friday prayers where the Khutbah is read.
What is Rak’ah?
A sequence of prayers containing actions and recitations.
What is Qibla?
Direction of Makkah.
What are the actions in Salah prayers?
Shoes are taken off, respect. Wuzu is the washing process to purify the mind and body before prayer, sins are forgiven. The Niyyah (intention) is made. Du’a, private prayer, is optional.
What are the actions in Salah prayers? (Qiyam)
Qiyam: Standing Muslims recite the first Surah. They sink to their knees (Sujud) saying: “Glory be to my Lord the supreme”
What are the actions in Salah prayers? (Takbir)
Takbir: Muslims raise hands to ears and say “Allahu Akbar” (God is supreme).
Importance of prayer?
Prayer admits Muslims to paradise; brings knowledge as a persons heart is opened to Allah which helps them become more helpful (benefits them on judgement day). A Muslim is either going or returning from praying. Shows their dependency of Allah.
What would happen without prayer?
Sins would build up and you would be overcome with arrogance.
What is the significance of standing with others when praying?
Standing with others reminds them of the need to work well and have a sense of community with others.
What would happen if a Muslim skipped Jumu’ah prayers?
It would make the person a unbeliever.
How do Sunni’s wash?
Called Wudu and is important for purifying the body and mind before speaking to Allah.
How do Shi’a’s wash?
Called Wuzu and is important for showing obedience to Allah and purifying the heart before speaking to Allah.
How many times a day do Sunni’s pray?
5 times a day
