Many young people rejected their parents values by dropping out of society and becoming hippies. Hippies wanted to create an alternate society that was different from the normal lives of their parents generation. Many of them became vegetarians and developed a distinctive style, most importantly they preached peace. Both inner peace for individuals and world peace.
