• Don’t have to be a witness against yourself (“I plead the 5th!”)
• No punishment without DUE PROCESS

-Guarantees a speedy trial, and impartial jury, and that the accused must be allowed to have a lawyer

-States that other rights aside from those listed may exist for the people, and just because they are not listed doesn’t mean they can’t be violated
