Thames Water Flashcards
Tell me about yourself? (Experience, Education, Type of person you are) (refer to job description)
-Graduated from University of Southampton with a 2:2 in Electrical Engineering, my favourite module was Control Systems and Engineering Design where we built an autonomous rover as I got to experience the full lifecycle of product from designing, prototyping, iterating and building, but also project planning and people skills through the use of Gantt Charts and Risk Assessments and regularly planning meetings to liaise with the other teams.
-Recently I got experience as an Assistant Service Electrician on a flat renovation project in Peckham which helped bridge the theoretical to practical gap as I got to see how electrical systems are implemented in the real world, specifically power systems in buildings where I installed and spurred 12 power outlets on ring and radial circuits within the residence. I also learnt about electrical safety while working on site such as correctly using the fusebox and circuit testers to ensure you’re not working on live circuitry
What made you apply for the Thames Water graduate programme?
I liked the course structure, how you have your typical work duties but get to stretch yourself further through the personal development programmes. I also liked the volunteering and charity opportunies available as I personally volunteered at my local youth club, unfortunately it shut down a fear years after but it was still an experience I really enjoyed.
I also liked the support offered on the scheme through your managers, mentors, the buddying scheme but also from the network of graduates you will be onboarding with.
What do you want to learn from this graduate programme?
Firstly I would love to leverage the support for chartership offered on the programme to become a chartered engineer. I would like to have developed my interpersonal skills further to deal with and interact with stakeholders, suppliers and contractors involved on large scale projects that impact millions. Learned how to maintain, install and fault find on the electrical systems involved in sewage treatment.
What are your career ambitions?
I see myself taking on more responsibility and taking on more senior roles at the company such as managing/leading teams based on my performance. I want to also become a chartered engineer and leverage all the learning and development opportunities offered by the company to become as highly achieving as possible.
Can you tell me one fact about Thames Water that surprised or amazed you?
That you are the largest water and wastewater company in the UK with over 16million customers. The company moves 7 billion litres of water every day. So the scale that the company operates at is mind boggling.
Do you have questions for me?
Is there support for postgraduate study at the company?
